Two mad punk-inspired films and three Australian cult film legends are hitting the road to introduce their outrageous new features. PUB: THE MOVIE (dir. Andrew Leavold, 2022) Is this the most rock'n'roll documentary ever made in Australia? A wild and crazy ride through Melbourne's art and punk underground, from the director of The Search For Weng Weng!
RIBSPREADER (dir. Dick Dale, 2022) Hilarious, blood-soaked no-budget splatterpunk masterpiece on the perils of smoking from Adelaide-based filmaker Dick Dale (Trasharama film fest, etc)
The directors will introduce the night.
ABOUT THE DIRECTORS
ANDREW LEAVOLD (Director, Writer, Co-Producer)
Film-maker and film historian Andrew Leavold owned and managed Trash Video, the largest cult video rental store in Australia, from 1995 to 2010. He is also a published author, researcher, TV presenter, film festival curator, musician, and above all, unrepentant and voracious fan of the pulpier aspects of genre cinema. His writing has been published globally in mainstream magazines, academic journals and underground cinema fanzines, since the mid-Nineties. Leavold and Trash Video were the subjects of an award-winning documentary for SBS, Escape From The Planet Of The Tapes (2003). Leavold toured the world with his feature length documentary The Search For Weng Weng (2013), and his 2017 book version, on the tragic life story of the two-foot-nine James Bond of the Philippines. His ten years of research on genre filmmaking in the Philippines formed the basis of Mark Hartley's documentary Machete Maidens Unleashed! (released internationally in 2010), on which Leavold is also Associate Producer, and he has since been recognized both in the Philippines and abroad as the foremost authority in his area of expertise, teaching Philippine film history at university level in Australia, the United States, and throughout the Philippines. Leavold's current projects include Film Safari, a six-part series to be filmed around the world on global cinema's wildest untold stories; a guerrilla action-comedy-mockumentary Da Taller Dey Come to be filmed in Ghana in 2024; and the feature-length documentary The Most Beautiful Creatures On The Skin Of The Earth, the third in his Filipino trilogy, about the politics of erotic cinema under the Marcos regime.
DICK DALE Bio: DICK DALE (Writer, Director Producer)
South Australian's Dale Dale has been creating short horror and bad taste comedies (award-winning and/or nominated) filthy films since 1993. Dick is also guilty of being a scarred veteran of fronting self-destructive punk rock bands since the mid-1980's. He is a repeat offender of other associated crimes (spoken word performance, scapegoat event organiser) in the underground music counterculture.
He spawned and has been curating the infamous and irreverent Trasharama-ago go Film Festival which is now celebrating it's twenty sixth year. Trasharama is the premiere and undisputed nastiest film Festival in Australia. It annually screens short horror, bad taste comedy and other cinematic oddities from all over this planet. It now runs in cahoots with Melbourne's Monster Fest each year. His labor of love, first feature film Ribspreader contains all the aesthetics of his creative life moshed into 90 minutes of madness, splatteriffic fun and cartoon punk rock mayhem! It has so far been selling out screenings' to very positive reviews. It so far has garnered the Audience Favorite award at the Adelaide Film Festival and won Best Feature Picture at Monster Fest 2022.
